Cloth Diaper Basics: Storage and Detergent+
Storing Soiled Diapers
- Store in a water resistant, odour proof pail, container or bag.
- Remove any solids before storing.
- Don't rinse or soak items until you're ready to wash them.
- Keep diapers as dry as possible between washes. The longer a diaper sits wet, the faster it wears out.
Choosing a Detergent
- Choose a detergent with enough surfactants to clean heavily soiled items with multiple fabric layers.
- Avoid natural oils and fabric softeners, which coat the fibres and cause liquids to be repelled.
- Avoid sodium percarbonate, bleach, and enzymes (enzymes can cause rashes).
- Avoid any ingredients you're sensitive to.
- Don't make loads too large or too small, as either leads to poor cleaning and shorter product life.

- Hang both pieces to dry, or use the dryer on low.
